Don't Ever Fly With Me...

A weekend recap from Cancun, which was pretty phenomenal....

We got into Cancun around 9:30 p.m. Friday night without a hitch...a 25-minute taxi ride later, and we were into the land of where high school and college kids consume a lot of alcohol and make bad decisions. We stayed at the NH Krystal, which was pretty nice and very well-located to a lot of restaurants, bars and clubs. We checked in, showered up, and went out to some bars.

Saturday, we woke up pretty early and headed for the Chichen Itza. It was amazing. Newly minted one of

the seven wonders of the world, it was pretty crazy. The main pyramid is the one that you see a picture of, and it was pretty breathtaking, including the mathematics involved [4 side with 90 steps a piece, plus 5 pillars on top to mark 365 days]. We walked around and saw the main pyramid, the sports arena [where the winning captain of the team was beheaded because the Mexicans are crazy about death], the Wall of Skulls [where Mayans used to kill visitors and put their heads on sticks as warnings], and the Wall of 1,000 pillars. Lots of vendors were present, and I got some pretty neat souvenirs. We also took a trip to a natural sink hole, as well as a trip 5 minutes away to Sinote, which was a natural sinkhole and waterfall that is considered a resort by many. Larisa, our guest auditor from Argentina, took the plunge into the 40-foot deep sinkhole. It was pretty awesome. Later that night, we obtained some cervezas and sat watched the tide come in. I was also offered cocaine twice, which was a first in my life.

Sunday was a nice relaxing day at the beach. We played a lot in the ocean and the pool, and drank some pina coladas. It was pretty nice since I hadn't actually verified that the beach existed during the daytime, so it was good to put that rumor to rest....

Finished with an awful flying experience back to Mexico City. We had a four flight delay, which we used to drink and eat at the Corona Bar in the airport. We finally left after 11 p.m., and we arrived at the hotel after 1:30 a.m. and going to bed after 2:00 a.m. It is going to be a rough day at work, but it was a great weekend nonetheless...

That's all for now...I got some pretty awesome pics, so check them out if you have time. We also have found out, through the Mexicans obsession with El Dia de Muerta [Day of the Dead], that the city will be nuts on Friday. We are staying in the city this weekend to venture outside and see some of the ancient Mayan ruins...also, the last weird quirk was that daylight savings time occurred this weekend in Mexico, but next weekend for the US.

Gracias y saludos,

Matt

That's an awesome pic, but I can't help but wonder how good it would look if it was taken from behind a window with a massive glare...
