Well, today was the big day, and it was a tough day. We had our ultrasound at 1:00 p.m. and it was an amazing experience. We were led into the examination room where the doc put a bunch of that crap on Steph's stomach and pulled up the pic of her stomach on the monitor, and we saw our peanut. Steph and I both had big grins on our face.
Now, the bad news. The doctor then performed a second procedure that was more detailed, and we could see ventrical and venial blood flow in the uterus. We could see, with the help of the doc, that there was a second sac where a twin probably was, but no longer remained. Red and blue specs filled the screen to show blood flow with one catch: no specs around where the baby's heart was. The doctor continued to look and said that she was 99.9% sure that this was going to end in a mis-carriage, as there was no discernable heartbeat with the ultrasound. We both were pretty upset and were led into a different room where the doc laid out our options as we both sat there in shock.
It was a pretty emotional day as we went from the high of seeing our baby peanut and being overjoyed, to seeing a baby [and possibly twin babies] with no heartbeat. Just like that, no baby.
We are doing okay...Steph is pretty upset but we understand that Mother Nature takes care of things for a reason. God acts in mysterious ways and we know that if it ends in a mis-carriage, it must be for a reason. Steph had more blood work done today to confirm her Hcg levels and we will know more probably tomorrow and in the next few days.
I leave for the Czech Republic/London/Paris tomorrow. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
